A Boy & His Dog

July 24, 2013

Or in this case, we should say a boy and his puppy!

Meet Avery!

Avery, a chocolate lab/weimaraner mix, and her owner, Trent, are the newest additions to the Blue Sky Alpacas Team. Trent is working to pack up orders and get them out to Blue Sky Alpacas Stockists, and Avery is right by his side “helping.”

Hard-working model.

Our newest addition naturally needed a handknit accessory, and a little kerchief seemed like just the thing for all the explorations Avery undertakes daily!

The Details
Pattern: Avery Kerchief
Designer: Katie Mayer
Size: Custom for your pet
Needle: Size 7 (4.5mm) needles
Yarn: Blue Sky Alpacas Multi Cotton, shown in Camo #6808
Pattern: CO 3 sts.
Row 1 and all foll RS rows: k1, m1, k to last st, m1, k1.
Row 2 and all foll WS rows: k.
Rep rows 1 and 2 until your kerchief is half the circumference of your pet’s neck.
Then, using the backwards loop cast on, cast on half the final number of sts to make one side of the tie. As an example, when the kerchief went halfway around Avery’s neck, there were 30 sts. Half of 30 = 15 sts, so I used the backwards loop cast on for an additional 15 sts.
K next row.
At the end of the opposite side of the kerchief, CO the same number as the first side. After this row, the total number of sts will have doubled. In this case, there were 30 sts for Avery’s Kerchief, CO 15 sts for the first side, 15 sts for the second side and end with 60 sts.
Knit four rows.
BO, weave in all ends, and share your new handknit accessory with your pet.
(Please always keep a watchful eye on pets wearing handknits.)
