New Free Patterns!

July 20, 2011

Is it hot and sticky where you are? Do you want to knit something that is small enough that you will stay cool? How about something a little different? I’ve got some new patterns to show you—and they’re all free, available for download right now.

13th Street Pillow, designed by Elinor Brown. Knit in Peppercorn #816 (A) and Cornflower #800 (B) Melange.

An adorable pillow to practice both fair isle and steeking. Steeking, you say? If you knit fair isle the traditional way, you knit in the round with extra edge stitches. After knitting, the edge stitches are stabilized with sewing and then (eek!) cut apart. It’s an old technique. Your pillow will be proof that you can do it, and not faint.

Perhaps you’d like to try something less demanding. Here’s my Shadow Capelet. Is it a scarf for your neck? Is it a warmer for your shoulders? It can be both. A very simple knit using our new Techno. Try it in the warm neutrals of Rogue #1973 (MC), Club Grey #1975 (A), and Fame #1970 (B) shown. Or maybe put together a combination of the neutrals and brights. It will be delicious to wear once things get a little cooler.

Our own Colleen Powley, she works right here at Blue Sky Alpacas too, created this lovely scarf Techno Scarf to match her Techno Hat design. Shown in groovy Techno Aquarius #1977.

The smocking stitch is so much fun, you’ll want to do it again and again. Before you know it, you’ll have a completed scarf. While you’re knitting, sing along with me: “When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars!…”

Keep on knitting and stay cool!
